'Doors Open Days' are a great way to visit new and different places that may not always be open to the public! New Lanark are taking part in Doors Open Day on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th September where our Counting House will be open to the public for a textile-themed tour where visitors will be able to see our working Carding Machine in action!
On Saturday 29th September, take part in an expert-led, hands-on workshop to learn about the traditional skills of Stonemasonry. John Henderson of HRH Stonemasonry Ltd, who is undertaking restoration works within the village, will explain about this traditional skill and some of the techniques involved. You will then be shown how to dress, tool and polish a stone. Please wear suitable clothing and sturdy shoes.Tickets for this event must be booked in advance via Eventbrite. There will also be Slating Demonstrations between 11 am and 3 pm outside the Institute.
The tours do not include entry to the New Lanark Visitor Centre. The tours are suitable for adults only due to the areas the tours will access. There will also be no other access available to buildings which are not usually open to the public or included in the bookable tours. Unfortunately, there is no disabled access on our textile-themed tour, due to the location of our Carding Machine.
